Dear Research and Innovation,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I would like to request access to the following documents related to lobbying on PFAS, per and polyfluoroalkyl substances. In particular I would like:

1. A list of all meetings/ discussions since 1 January 2023 between officials and or Commissioners with businesses, trade associations, or think tanks where this topic was discussed.

2. Any records, minutes, preparatory briefings, or other notes of these meetings/discussions.

3. All correspondence since 1 January 2023, where this topic was discussed, exchanged between officials and or Commissioners with businesses, trade associations, or think tanks.
To the extent possible, my strong preference is to receive documents in electronic format.
I would also be grateful to receive the documents in batches, as soon as they are identified and available to send.

Please note that I have tabled this request separately to DG CNECT, DG Comp, DG Mare, DG Empl, DG RTD, DG Clima, DG Move, DG Defis, DG Energy, DG Sante, DG JRC, DG Agri, and DG Trade of the Commission, and a similar request to DG Environment, DG Grow, and the Secretariat-General, and I look forward to receiving the respective documents accordingly.

Thank you in advance.

Yours faithfully,

Vicky Cann

Dear Research and Innovation,

Thank you for the documents for 2024/3017 which I have received.

Dear Research and Innovation,

Please pass this on to the person who reviews confirmatory applications.

Thank you for the documents in response to request 2024/3017. I am filing the following confirmatory application with regards to this request 'PFAS lobbying since 1 January 2023'.

Please note that I do not ask for persoanl information.

I would like to ask for a review of the redactions to document 2: 2.230329 Notes from meeting with Chemours 002. There is significant interest and corporate lobbying on the topic of PFAS, especially by Chemours, and it is important that this is transparent. Additionally as the document in question is from a lobby meeting and was written by a Commission official, it seems highly unlikely that it contains details of commercially sensitive information which would match the high level of redaction and I would like that to be reviewed.

In addition I would like to ask if there were Commission reponses to document 10 (a SPECTARIS breakfast invitation) and how the exchanges with BEPA (document 6) were concluded, especially as BEPA asked a question about Horizon Europe funding availability.

Thank you in advance.

Yours faithfully,

Vicky Cann

Dear Research and Innovation,

I last heard from you on 26 September 2024 regarding my confirmatory request for access to
Commission documents for case 2024/3017, which was registered on 6/09/2024.

When will I receive a response?

sg-acc-doc@ec.europa.eu,

Dear Ms Cann,

We acknowledge receipt of your email of 5 March 2025, concerning the
delays in the handling of your request.

We would like, first, to reassure you that your confirmatory application
is being processed.

When assessing a confirmatory application for access to documents
submitted pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001, the
Secretariat-General conducts an independent review of the reply given by
the Directorate-General concerned at initial stage. Whereas the
Secretariat-General strives to handle as promptly as possible all incoming
confirmatory applications, please note that delays are due to the very
high volume of requests currently reaching our services. Unfortunately we
cannot commit to a specific time frame within when the final decision will
be adopted.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience the delay in
this case may cause to you and thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

Secretariat-General/ Unit C.1 (Transparency, Document Management and
Access to Documents)
