Reports from former Commissioners
Dear Madam, Sir,
The European Commission can authorise activities of former Members of the Commission on condition that they inform the Commission periodically of how other conditions are implemented. For example, the Commission authorised Former Commissioner Phil Hogan's post term of office professional activities as regards his consultancy firm 'Hogan, Strategic Advisory Services, on the condition that he "should inform the Commission every 6 months, until 26 August 2022, about his clients and mandates".
It is in the public interest to know whether former Members of the Commission comply with such conditions. Therefore, under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting documents which contain the following information:
1) All reports submitted by former Members of the Commission regarding the application of conditions in the decision to authorise new activities since 1 October 2019
2) An overview of all reports described above
The first category of documents may be protected by an exception in article 4 of the Regulation. If it is, I would request that the Commission argues why there is no overriding public interest. The proper application of the Commission decisions on authorisation of post-office activities is of course a public interest. But I realise that the Commission should treat such information as confidential, in case the former Commissioner asks for such confidentiality. In that case, I would appreciate if the Commission can say whether the specific former Commissioner has requested such confidentiality. The second category of documents can be made public without damaging any confidentiality.
Please note I prefer to receive the documents in digital format, not by physical mail.
Sincerely,
Peter Teffer
