Request for Access to Documents: Oversight and National Programme Data regarding Imported NORM Waste (2023 – Current)
Dear Sir/Madam,
Pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 regarding public access to European Parliament, Council and Commission documents, I hereby request access to the following documents and data held by the European Commission, covering the period from January 1, 2023 to present:
I direct this request to: Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER), Unit D.3 (Nuclear Safety and Waste).
1. Verification and Inspection Reports (NORM Control)
I request access to any relevant reports, meeting minutes, summaries, or conclusions resulting from the European Commission's Verification missions/inspections (e.g., under Euratom Treaty Article 35) conducted in any EU Member State from January 1, 2023 to present, which specifically focused on the regulatory control, clearance, or handling of imported NORM waste.
Reports should specifically include checks related to shipments originating from the following major global oil & gas companies (or their subsidiaries):
ExxonMobil, Shell, Chevron, BP, TotalEnergies, Equinor, ConocoPhillips, Aker BP, Eni, Repsol, Occidental Petroleum, Wintershall Dea, Harbour Energy, Hess Corporation, and CNOOC.
2. National Programme Data (NORM Inventory)
I request access to the specific sections or data extracts from EU Member States' National Programmes for the management of spent fuel and radioactive waste (submitted under Directive 2011/70/Euratom), which outline the national strategy and inventory for the management of NORM waste from the oil and gas industry, particularly concerning material generated by companies such as:
ExxonMobil, Shell, Chevron, BP, TotalEnergies, Equinor, ConocoPhillips, Aker BP, Eni, Repsol, Occidental Petroleum, Wintershall Dea, Harbour Energy, Hess Corporation, and CNOOC.
I seek maximum transparency concerning the oversight of NORM waste management in the EU.
