Request for Frontex logs of “FSA sightings”, mayday alerts and transmissions (including recipient lists) in the Central Mediterranean on 24-Aug-2025 and 26-Sep-2025.
Dear European Border and Coast Guard Agency,
Pursuant to Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 and Frontex public-access rules, I request access to the following records for the Central Mediterranean area covering the dates 24 August 2025 and 26 September 2025:
All Flight/Sea Surveillance Asset (FSA) sighting logs, mayday alerts, distress reports, incident reports, and other operational notifications recorded, logged or created by Frontex (including the Joint Operations Centre, mission crews, contracted surveillance providers and analysts) that refer to vessels in distress, rubber boats, or search-and-rescue situations on those dates.
For each sighting/alert/report, please provide:
timestamp (UTC);
geographic coordinates and estimated distance from nearest coast;
asset that recorded the sighting (aircraft/drone/ship – include callsign/registration and mission ID if available);
whether a mayday alert was generated by Frontex or relayed by Frontex to other parties;
the list of recipients to whom the sighting/alert was forwarded (JRCC Tripoli, Libyan units, national MRCCs, NGOs, Alarm Phone, other Frontex recipients), including the time of forwarding and the medium used;
any reference numbers linking the sighting/alert to subsequent operational communications or intercepts.
Any internal guidance, SOPs or memos in force on those dates that define how Frontex forwards sightings/maydays and which recipients are notified in SAR cases.
Preferred format: searchable PDF and original electronic logs/spreadsheets. Please include metadata (timestamps, sender/recipient headers) for e-mails and automated logs.
Timeframe searched: all records dated 24 Aug 2025 and 26 Sep 2025 and follow-ups within 24 hours.
