Request Regarding Alina Burea’s Role as Spokesperson for Giovanni Kessler in the John Dalli Case and Its Relevance to Her Current Position at DG BUDG
Dear Budget,
Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001,
I am submitting a formal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for access to any documents, records, or communications related to the involvement of Alina Burea currently nominated as Head of Unit (HoU) at DG BUDG in the investigation concerning John Dalli case
Given that Mrs. Burea played the role of spokesperson for Giovanni Kessler former Director-General of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), during the John Dalli case and her recent appointment as a Head of Unit at DG BUDG I am requesting access to the following documents and records in the interest of transparency and public accountability:
1. Documents or communications that detail Alina Burea’s role as spokesperson for OLAF and Giovanni Kessler during the investigation concerning John Dalli, including her involvement in managing public communications, media inquiries, or other official statements on the case.
2. Any media statements, press releases, or interviews provided by Alina Burea during her time as spokesperson for OLAF, specifically in relation to OLAF’s findings on the John Dalli investigation and its decision to forward the case to the Maltese Authorities.
3. Internal communications or directives from Giovanni Kessler or OLAF leadership, where Alina Burea’s responsibilities for public communications during the case are described, including the strategic handling of information provided to the public or media.
4. Documents or communications assessing the role of Alina Burea in her capacity as spokesperson and how her involvement in the John Dalli case may have impacted or informed her appointment as Head of Unit at DG BUDG*
