Dear Permanent Representation of Belgium to the EU,

Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting information:

I read online Flanders has a mandatory rule for newly installed meters , new buildings and renovations and in Wallonia mandatory for consumers over 6000kWh a year .

If you live outside the areas of Flanders and Wallonia are there mandatory smart meter regulations or laws ?

The word mandatory I am questioning

Is there an law in Wallonia and Flanders regarding smart meters ?

Can Flanders and Wallonia residents opt out , pay a fine to not have a smart meter if they fall under the mandatory umbrella
Flanders newly installed , new buildings and renovations
Wallonia consumers over 6000kWh a year

Yours faithfully,

Cara MacDonald

Dear Permanent Representation of Belgium to the EU,

I wait on a response

Yours faithfully,

Cara MacDonald

Belgoeurop Jur, Permanent Representation of Belgium to the EU

Dear Mrs MacDonald,

This request does not fall within the scope of Regulation 1049/2001 on
public access to European Parliament, Council and Commission documents.

As regards the Flemish government, you can find the information on the
obligation in the [1]Energy Decision.

There is currently no opt-out possibility in Flanders. If the digital
meter is refused, the grid operator can initiate legal proceedings. See:

.

Regarding your questions about the existing regulations in the Walloon
Region, please refer to the channels existing for this purpose, accessible
via [4]this link.

Kind regards,

The Permanent Representation of Belgium to the EU
