State aid for steel decarbonisation: request of the Commission's complete public decision
Dear Competition Directorate-General,
I am writing to make a request for access to documents under the provisions of Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 regarding public access to the European Parliament, Council, and Commission documents.
I hereby request access to a number of documents related to Competition decisions on state aid granted to several companies for decarbonisation in their steel production. My request specifically concerns the complete public versions of the European Commission's decisions to grant state aid related to the following projects within the framework of the EU Hydrogen Strategy:
- €2.6 billion German State aid measure to support Stahl-Holding-Saar decarbonise its steel production through hydrogen use. Announced on 19 December 2023
- German €550 million direct grant and conditional payment mechanism of up to €1.45 billion to support ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe in decarbonising its steel production and accelerating renewable hydrogen uptake. Announced on 20 July 2023
- €1 billion German measure to support Salzgitter decarbonise its steel production by using hydrogen. Announced on 4 October 2022

Hello,
We are writing concerning your request for access to Commission documents
registered on 05.04.2024 under case number 2024/1878.
We are currently working on your request. However, we have not yet been
able to gather all the elements necessary to carry out a full analysis of
your request. We will not be able to send you the reply within the
prescribed time limit expiring on 26.04.2024. In order to retrieve the
documents requested, large files have to be examined.
Therefore, in line with Article 7(3) of [1]Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001,
we need to extend this time limit by 15 additional working days. The new
