state aid to Gdansk shipyard in 2009
Dear Competition (COMP),
Under the right of access to documents in the EU treaties, as
developed in Regulation 1049/2001, I am requesting access to any
letters sent by the European Commission to Polish authorities or by
Polish authorities to the commission regarding DG COMP's state aid
decision on the Gdansk shipyard in 2009, cf. C(2009)5685.
I am a Polish national and a reporter covering EU affairs.
Given the historic value of the Gdansk shipyard in the Solidarity
movement, I want to know to what extent historical and political
sensitivities were taken into account by the European Commission when it
was making its decision.
I believe it is in the public interest to know whether such decisions
are taken purely on technical grounds or taking into account the
broader context.
